What is the best website to purchase the cheapest airline tickets?

crdmcrdm asked:

We are wanting to purchase airline tickets and have been on the usual sites, but we just dont want to miss any other good websites before we purchase. Any suggestions?

The airline’s own website most likely will have the best flights. I always check expedia.com or orbitz.com and then see which airline has the cheapest flight, then go to that airline’s website, pick the same flights and 99% of the time they’re the exact same price. Some airlines (I know American Airlines) guarantee that you will find the cheapest fares on their own website. Also, many of those sites charge “booking fees” of $5 or more so it’s actually cheaper through the airline. And also the “low-fare” carriers usually don’t offer their tickets through those sites so you have to book through the airline’s website. However, JetBlue always seems to be a more expensive option for me (and sometimes considerably more)

    travelocity.com or hotwire.com

Hotwire will give you crazy routes sometimes. I got a ticket for my mom once for Iowa to San Diego and they sent her to Atlanta before catching a non-stop to San Diego.

There is also mobissimo.com and sidestep.com, but I like kayak the best
