do airline tickets get cheaper as date draws closer?

Fenball asked:

I’m going to be flying to Ft. Myers in two weeks, got the ticket there real cheap, but flights back weren’t cheap..if i wait till like 5 days out, will the return flight get real cheap if seats are left?

i found that it got more expensive. I was planning on flying out from buffallo to ft. lauderdale. What was originally 400 jumped to 500 a few days before. I ended up driving :(

i have had the opposite experience. the longer you wait the more you pay. the sooner you get your tickets the cheaper they are

Yes, if you wait till a day or two before. The airline tries to sell their last available seats right before. But theres always the chance that they wont have any tickets, and if you do manage to get some tickets, they probably wont be grouped together on the plane they will be mixed around.

No they get more expensive, airlines will always advise you to book in advance to take advantage of their best fares. Sometimes they do a special deal but not within a week of flying.

I would try another airline or make different plans.

the cheapest flights are on a Tue or Wed. so if you can fly on those days it would be best. Even though travel is down. the Airlines are banking on making money durring spring break. you have a better chance if your buying only one ticket, but if there are several trying to buy a cheep ticket, your going to be out of luck waiting.

90-60 days before will give you the best prices and the better times to fly. Usually you will be able to pick a better seat. I am not sitting next to the toilet…Ewww

They usually don’t but they may. Just compare as many sites as possible from now until then. Go here: and I assure you that you will find something great and cheap.
