Magdalena asked:

What are the annual fees and how many points do you need to redeem the airline tickets?

I think you would be best to avoid any credit card which charges an annual fee. Northwest is now going to charge $100 for a “free” ticket if you redeem miles. This seems to be the airlines latest way to reward their loyal customers. So, if you pay an annual fee and pay to get redeem your miles it can get ugly. Look for a cash rebate “no fee” card. If you want you can apply that money towards an airline ticket with no-hassles. Chase, Am Express, Capital One, Citi Bank are just a few banks that offer them. Just make sure you pay your balance on time every month or watch out!

It is a proven fact that they are not woth it. They charge you an annual fee any where from $50 and up…you have to charge to get points……and some have blackout periods = some get 25000 points for a ticket some 50000. Unless you have excellent credit - I wouldn’t even bother

One of American Express Aeroplan cards.
American Express Aeroplan Plus has $60 annual fee and 0% interest.

I say the Southwest Airlines Visa card is really good for that. My boss uses it for our office and it works, i think the only thing it charges you is like $5 or $10 dollars for a fee. He pretty much has no annual fee and it redeems itself whenever you choose to use it. I think his interest is like 18% or 19% APR, which i don’t think is that bad compared to other companies.

Capital One doesn’t have block out dates and you’re not stuck to one airline.

The Capital One No Hassle Miles Ultra for Professionals card effective pays 2% rewards on all spending if the rewards are redeemed on airline tickets that cost $600+ or nearly $350 (has to do with redemption structure). The card has a $39 annual fee though.

Another option is the American Express Blue Sky card which pays 1.33% rewards on all spending. The rewards can be applied to airline tickets, hotels, vehicle rentals, and other travel-related expenses.

You can also try this rewards calculator to see which credit card would pay you the most in rewards for your expected spending profile:

You can use that calculator to compare your earnings with that Capital One card and the AmEx Blue Sky card against dozens of other cards.
