Is there a certain time of day that it is best to purchase airline tickets?

Sherry R asked:

Went online last week to preorder tickets for Christmas flight and they were $99.00 and went online just now and they were $273. Is there a good time to preorder airline tickets cheapest?

I assume the closer to the date the more the cost will rise, so buying them wayyyy before the flight is probably cheapest because most seats are available then.

Actually not time of day but on Saturday. Here’s a list of tips to get the best fares.

Check weekly on BookMe.com. You can compare flights on just about all of the major travel sites, and figure out when the best time to buy is. From my experience, it has been on Fridays, but you may find better deals…

Also, more than one person has been known to get a great deal on a ticket by going to a site during off-hours, like the middle of the night. This is because it’s when the most maintenance is carried out on the sites/systems, and glitches/mistakes are more likely to occur then as well. The only problem is that there’s no guarantee, just a small chance, that you’ll save a bundle because the system dropped a digit when quoting your price.
